I am actively recruiting excellent students who intend to pursue their M.S. or Ph.D. beginning in 2018. Areas of research include resistance testing, sea-keeping, multi-phase flows involving cavitation, ventilation, and the free surface, and fluid structure interactions (FSI). Students in my research group will participate actively in the planning and execution of experimental hydrodynamics research in the University of Iowa’s world-class experimental facilities, including a towing tank and a maneuvering basin (more info here).
Desirable qualities for prospective students include
- An interest or background in fluid mechanics
- Originality and creativity in solving engineering problems
- “Hands-on” engineering experience (work, hobbies, etc)- auto repair, fabrication, electrical installations, and/or previous experimental research
